Aan het Hoger Instituut voor Wijsbegeerte wordt een voltijds ambt vacant gesteld in het zelfstandig academisch personeel binnen het domein van de Algemene wijsbegeerte.
De kandidaat is doctor in de wijsbegeerte. Zij/hij zal een belangrijke onderwijsopdracht hebben in Kortrijk en Leuven en moet dus in staat zijn om uitstekend onderwijs te verstrekken, ook aan grote groepen studenten. Daarnaast wordt zij/hij geacht onderzoek te verrichten dat aansluit bij het onderzoek dat verricht wordt in één van de centra van het HIW.
De onderwijsopdracht omvat een geheel van colleges waartoe behoren :
1) aan de campus Kortrijk, ‘Inleiding tot de Wijsbegeerte’ en ‘Ethiek’ en
2) aan het HIW het opleidingsonderdeel ‘Historische Inleiding tot de Wijsbegeerte’.
Aan de kandidaat wordt ook de mogelijkheid geboden om colleges te geven aansluitend bij haar/zijn onderzoeks-profiel.
De graad van de aan te stellen kandidaat zal mede worden bepaald door haar/zijn ervaring en realisaties op gebied van onderwijs en onderzoek. De aanstelling gaat in op 1 oktober 2010. Er wordt de voorkeur gegeven aan een voltijdse aanstelling.

The Institute of Philosophy of the K.U.Leuven announces a full-time tenured academic position dedicated to teaching and research in the field of the history of Modern Philosophy. Although it welcomes applications from all suitably qualified candidates, the Institute would like to ameliorate its current research profile in the history of modern philosophy, and aims to recruit an individual whose research lies in the period from 1600 to 1850. Such a person should also have an interest in one or more aspects of the history and development of metaphysics in the late seventeenth, eighteenth, and early nineteenth centuries.
Requirements: the candidate
- should possess a Doctorate in Philosophy
- should be capable of undertaking research and of developing teaching in the history of modern philosophy and metaphysics.
More particularly, the candidate
- should be thoroughly familiar with the history of Modern philosophy from 1600 to 1850
- can study texts from this period in their original languages (French, English, German and Latin)
- should be capable of showing the historical and philosophical importance of Modern Philosophy for contemporary philosophical debates.
The candidate is expected to contribute to the research activities of the Centre for Metaphysics and Modern Philosophy. He/she must be prepared to teach courses and seminars, both in Dutch and English, and should be able to teach both graduate and undergraduate students of the Institute of Philosophy and of other faculties of the K.U.Leuven.
Candidates who do not possess a fluent knowledge of Dutch, which is required for the purposes of teaching and administration, are expected to acquire the relevant proficiency within three years of appointment.

More especially, the candidate should be familiar with the history of ethics, especially its canonical authors and works, and with the major themes, questions, and issues of contemporary ethics. In addition this, s/he must be willing to relate their research to one or other of sub-disciplines of ethics, such as biomedical ethics, which enjoy a high profile within the Institute of Philosophy and K.U.Leuven.

Requirements:
The candidate has a Doctorate in Philosophy.
S/he is capable of conducting scientific research and of teaching in the field of medieval philosophy.
More specifically, the candidate
1.is familiar with the standard authors and works of the medieval scholastic tradition and its early modern continuation;

The Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Groningen, The Netherlands, seeks 2 junior researchers for the research programme “Humanists as Philosophers: The Place of Renaissance Humanism in the History of Thought”, led by Professor Lodi Nauta and funded by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO).

The applicant can work on one of these projects but can also submit his/her own research proposal as long as it ties in with the main objectives of the programme.
Founded in 1614, the University of Groningen is the second-oldest university in the Netherlands. Its Faculty of Philosophy has an excellent reputation both in teaching and research, and occupies a top position in national rankings. It offers a lively and friendly intellectual community of about 45 teachers and researchers, and ca. 350 full-time students. A number of researchers come from abroad. The History of Philosophy department covers the entire history of philosophy from classical Antiquity to contemporary trends.
The University Library in Groningen is a good research library, while the other main university libraries in the Netherlands are reachable in 2-3 hours by train.
PhD
- PhD-positions are for four years on a full-time basis (contract for 1 year, with an extension of 3 years after a positive evaluation). The PhD will write a doctoral dissertation and may be asked to do some teaching.
- Applicants should possess an MA (or equivalent) in the history of philosophy, (intellectual) history, or classics/literature. Candidates with an MA from adjacent fields relevant to the programme are also encouraged to respond.
- Knowledge of Dutch is no prerequisite.

The Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Freiburg invites applications for the position of Assistant Professorship/Juniorprofessur in Philosophy (W1) with tenure-track option - Bertha Ottenstein Professorship.
The Bertha Ottenstein Professorship is an initiative to support promising female researchers. The position is based on a temporary appointment with tenure-track option. It is funded by means of the German Excellence Initiative.
The successful candidate will lead a research group and conduct research on “Grammar – Logic – Rhetoric: Conceptions of Language at the Crossroads of Scientific Disciplines and Social Groups in Arabic-Islamic Culture (800-1100)” which has been granted a strategic position within the Faculty of Philosophy. The Center for the History of Philosophy and Science of the Faculty of Philosophy of Radboud University Nijmegen seeks an outstanding junior researcher for a project in the history of philosophy and/or science.
