The Department of Classics invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the level of Assistant Professor. We seek a broadly trained classicist with ability to teach ancient philosophy at all undergraduate levels.
Candidates should demonstrate skill in undergraduate teaching, an active program of scholarship, intellectual breadth and versatility, and the desire to contribute to a vibrant and innovative program in Classics. The successful candidate will be able to teach Greek and Latin at all levels, as well as courses in ancient philosophy and other aspects of classical civilization, and will enhance connections with other programs in the university. In addition to teaching within the major, assignments will regularly include courses in the Frederik Meijer Honors College and in the Department of Philosophy. The Department of Philosophy and University College in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto invite applications for a teaching-stream appointment in Philosophy of Mind/Cognitive Science at the rank of Lecturer to begin on July 1, 2014.
The successful candidate will be appointed both to the Department of Philosophy (60%) and to University College (40%) in support of the teaching mission of the Department of Philosophy and the Cognitive Science Program at University College.
Candidates must hold a PhD by July 1, 2014, or shortly thereafter, and must demonstrate evidence of excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level. The successful candidate will have the ability to teach a broad range of undergraduate courses from the introductory to advanced levels in both appointing units, and will be expected to have broad teaching competence in Philosophy. Administrative experience is an asset.
Appointments at the rank of Lecturer may be renewed annually to a maximum of five years. In the fifth year of service, Lecturers shall be reviewed and a recommendation made with respect to promotion to the rank of Senior Lecturer. Senior Lecturers hold continuing appointments at the University.

The University Center for Human Values and the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs invite applications for postdoctoral positions in Values and Public Policy. We aim to support highly promising scholars trained in moral and political philosophy, political theory, normative economics and related areas to develop a research agenda in the ethical dimensions of public policy.
Candidates selected will undertake a research project exploring a normative problem arising in an area of public policy in which the Woodrow Wilson School conducts research. They will be affiliated with a unit of the School that can inform and support their work. They will also be invited to participate in programs of the University Center for Human Values. Candidates will be expected to contribute one course each year to the School’s undergraduate or graduate program on a topic related to ethical issues in public policy, subject to sufficient enrollment and approval by the Dean of the Faculty.
Qualifications
Applicants must have completed the requirements for the Ph.D. by September 1, 2014 and must not have held the degree for more than three years by that date. They may not be employed by another institution during the term of their Princeton appointment.
Applicants’ dissertation research need not be specifically in values and public policy, but they will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to working on a research project in this area during their time at Princeton. Projects must be related to an area in which the School has a Center or Program such as environmental policy, population and health, democratic institutions and processes, information technology policy or global governance. The University Center for Human Values invites applications for Laurance S. Rockefeller Visiting Faculty Fellowships for the academic year 2014-15. Fellows devote an academic year in residence at Princeton to do research and writing about topics involving human values in public and private life. The program is open to scholars in all disciplines provided their research plans qualify. In recent years fellows have been drawn from fields including philosophy, political theory, literature, history, classics, economics and law, but this list is not meant to be exhaustive.
Fellows are expected to reside in or around Princeton and to be active contributors to the intellectual life of the Center. This includes participating in a weekly seminar attended by fellows and Center faculty to discuss work in progress and in various other seminars, colloquia and lectures sponsored by the Center. Fellows enjoy access to Firestone Library and to a wide range of activities throughout the University.
Candidates should have a doctorate or equivalent professional degree and a strong record of research publications appropriate to their career stage. Typically Fellows hold faculty positions at other universities or colleges; in exceptional cases we consider applications from independent scholars when there is a high level of scholarly achievement. This is not a post-doctoral fellowship program and we do not generally consider candidates who will have held the Ph.D. for less than two years at the time of appointment.
The fellowship period extends from September 1 to July 1. Fellows normally receive stipends of up to one-half their academic-year salaries (subject to a minimum and maximum set each fall). Ordinarily their home institutions provide a portion of their salaries in addition to all benefits, although this is not a requirement for appointment. Stipends for independent scholars will not exceed the maximum for fellows holding appointments elsewhere.
