The Department of Philosophy at Dalhousie University invites applications for a 10 month Limited Term Appointment at the Assistant Professor/Lecturer level, effective August 1, 2013. This position is subject to budgetary approval. Areas of specialization: Metaphysics, Epistemology. Areas of competence: Early Modern Philosophy, Philosophy of Mind. The Department also needs classes taught in Understanding Scientific Reasoning and Intro.

The successful applicant will teach courses at introductory, intermediate and advanced undergraduate/graduate levels, with some limited graduate student supervision and committee work. Excellence in teaching and research is required. Applicants must hold (or be about to receive) a Ph.D. in Philosophy. Salary will depend upon qualifications and experience. Course load will be 3 and 3.

Those interested should have at least one of the following as their AOS: aesthetics, history of philosophy (from the renaissance until before Kant) or philosophy of history and intellectual history.

The teaching load is one full course per semester. Those submitting should be able to speak Spanish. They should be prepared to be interviewed, deliver a job talk and teach a class the topic of which will be anounced.

Con el propósito de rejuvenecer la planta de investigadores, los interesados deberán contar con el grado de Doctor en Filosofía y preferentemente no tener más de 7 años de haberlo obtenido (se concederán dos años más por maternidad). Con el objeto de dar cumplimiento a la carga docente señalada por el Estatuto del Personal Académico (al menos tres horas semanales por semestre), los interesados deberán hablar español.

La dirección revisará los dossier enviados con el fin de contratar a la persona idónea. El proceso de revisión tendrá lugar a lo largo del segundo semestre de 2013. Se espera que la relación laboral comience en enero de 2014.

The Centre de recherche en éthique de l’Université de Montréal (CRÉUM) invites applications for its postdoctoral research fellowship (grant up to $27 000) for the period of the academic year 2013-2014. The length of the stay can vary depending on the dossier and the kind of research envisaged.

The mission of the CREUM is to contribute to research in ethics and to the quality of graduate training in all fields of ethics from meta-ethics to applied questions.

We encourage applications from researchers working on themes related to the research axes of the CREUM : ethics and economics, ethics and the environment, ethics and health, ethics and politics, meta-ethics. We also admit applications from other disciplines, provided their research is directly linked to questions in ethics.

The Université de Montréal is a francophone institution. Candidates must have sufficient knowledge of the French language to be able to participate in the activities of the centre.

GRIN Postdoctoral fellowship

The Groupe de Recherche Interuniversitaire sur la Normativité (GRIN) is pleased to offer a postdoctoral fellowship worth up to $ 27,000 for the academic year 2013-2014. The internship period may vary based on the record submitted and the nature of the research.

The GRIN’s mandate is to study normativity as it unfolds in four major areas of philosophy : ethics, action theory, philosophy of mind and epistemology (for details, see our website (in french only)).
The postdoctoral fellow will be supervised by a member of the GRIN and will be attached to the Centre for Research on Ethics of the University of Montreal (CREUM), whose mission is to contribute to interdisciplinary research in the areas of ethics.

GRIN is a bilingual research group, but the Université de Montréal is a francophone institution. Candidates must have sufficient abilities in both french and english to enable them to participate in activities organised by the GRIN.

This appointment includes a 3/3 load teaching philosophy classes in all areas of our curriculum (from introductory to advanced levels), developing interdisciplinary and experience-based learning opportunities, and performing chairperson duties in a four-person department.
